Burras, Roos clash concludes in a draw
Despite playing each other, the bottom couple of sides in the Wimmera Football Netball League remain without a win after a draw on Saturday.
Dimboola and Minyip Murtoa both have five losses and a draw, with final scores 8.8 56 each in their round seven match.
It was Dimboola getting off to a better start in the clash, up by five points at the end of the first quarter 2.2 (14) to 1.3 (9).
They continued the momentum in the quarter before half-time, leading 4.5 (29) to 2.5 (17) at the big break.
The Burras drew the gap back in a bit in the third, down by seven heading into the final term, before a 1.1 effort to Dimboola, and a 3.2 quarter to Minyip Murtoa ended in the first draw of the season for seniors.
Coach of Dimboola, Andrew Moore, said it was great to see his side get a score on the board and remain competitive and consistent throughout the game.
"I was proud of their effort, and like I said, around that consistency through four quarters," Moore said.
"So far this year, we might have played a good half, but also on the flipside, it was about getting those inside 50s and making the most of the opportunity. in there.
"It was pleasing for a lot of players to get a reward for the effort and hard work in for the draw, but in terms of the result, it was a great match, and it could have gone either way."
Moore said they knew the Burras were going to bring a challenging game and said his side was bolstered by a few inclusions.
"Leaders we have had out for many weeks, and they stood up," Moore continued to explain.
"For us to be in a position where the game was winnable, it was nice to be a part of, and as I said, the players have been working their backsides off, so it was nice to have an opportunity to win."
Moore said the Roos went into the game knowing they had to improve their ball movement and offensive structure, and said that, although they still have a way to go with that, the consistency of execution around it was good to see.
"To be able to get a bit more forward thrust into our forward 50 and be able to play a bit more of that territory game and put that pressure on, we haven't had the chance to do so to date, really," he said.
"We also made some changes positionally, along with the number of players back into the group, and that always straightens us up, with them leading from the front as experienced players."
Goal kickers included Lachlan Mackley and Thomas O'Dwyer for Dimboola, with both players booting three majors respectively, while Oscar Gawith was the only multiple goal scorer for Minyip Murtoa, also with three.
The consistency of coach Moore, who was best on ground for his side, along with Mitchell O'Donnell and Riley McLaughlin, kept them in the match all day, while Minyip Murtoa was best led by Hamish McRae, Nick Cushing and Tim Mackenzie.
Moore gave the nod to his co-captains in Darcy Dubois and "Jacko" (Jackson Oneill), for their efforts on Saturday.
"They were big for us in the really huge moments," Moore shared.
"I thought Noah Campbell had a strong game, and we have been throwing him around, not only in the ruck but down back and up forward.
"He presented well, playing up forward a bit more on Saturday and giving us a target to kick to.
"Bully (Mitch O'Donnell) had a strong game. He's only played half the season with us, but you can see how clean he is inside and that consistency of his game, and he leads from the front as well."
Moore, who lives in Adelaide, will enjoy staying put in South Australia this week, and said it is a good opportunity for his side to freshen up in preparation for a big final half of the year.
