Burras outlast Eagles in scrappy affair

Warrack Eagles put in a valiant effort in their 11 point loss to Minyip Murtoa in the final round of the Wimmera Football League home and away season at the Murtoa Recreation Reserve on Saturday.
In a tight scrappy match early, it was Mitch Johns kicking the first goal for Minyip Murtoa which was answered a few minutes later by Joe McKinnon, which gave the Eagles a two point lead into quarter time.
The second quarter wasn’t as tight as the first but the Burras started to get on top thanks to two goals to Jye Walter, a snap from the boundary and from a contested mark directly in front.
That didn’t stop the Eagles whom continued to grind away and were rewarded for effort half way into the second quarter with McKinnon kicking his second goal with a snap from the boundary to reduce the margin to five points.
Will Cameron had a chance to extend the lead for the Burra with a set shot at goal 40 metres out directly in front but his kick narrowly went to the left for a behind.
Not long after, McKinnon received a free kick on the wing and was rewarded with two 50 metre penalties and kicked his third goal to reduce the deficit to one point at half time.
The third quarter remained tight with the only goal coming from great pressure and teamwork for the Burras. Luke Fisher laid a ripping tackle in the forward pocket which spilled the ball to Warwick Stone who handballed to Walter who strolled in for his third goal.
From there, the game remained tight with no more goals scored with the Burras running out 4.9.33 to 3.4.22 victors.
For the Eagles, Jacob Sobey, Declan Powell, Lachie Stewart, Jake O’Donnell, Dylan Watts and Riley Morrow were their best players and for Minyip Murtoa, Will Holmes was best on ground getting plenty of the ball and applying a lot of pressure.
