Open your heart to haunting tunes from the moor and kick up your heels to a lively jig or two, with Jeparit’s Hindmarsh Hotel welcoming Sionnach Rua to the stage on March 25.
Sionnach Rua (pronounced ‘shun-ukh roo-a’) are known throughout the lands for their style of storytelling and songwriting which casts the listener across the seas to a place of misty fens, green hills and tales as old as time.
Irishman Gallie brings his own vocals, acoustic guitar and bodhrán skills together with a talented group of musicians, including Paddy Montgomery on the bouzouki, acoustic bass guitar and mandola, Ruth Wise on the fiddle, and Sam Davies on the uilleann pipes, tin whistle and low whistle, to create a show which offers stories of life growing up in Dublin, Ireland’s many traditions, it's folk lore and it’s history, all masterfully set to a mix of Celtic music from Planxty to Van Morrison to the Dubliners.
Sionnach Rua, the "Red Fox" is known throughout Irish mythology and Celtic understanding as a skilful animal, and is certainly personified in the group's performances, with their acceptance into Creative Victoria’s prestigious Showcase Victoria, invitations to play at The National Celtic Folk Festival in Portarlington, and their history of playing at Performing Arts Centres across the state to sell out venues.
