BrimKSH secure top two spot
BrimKSH has secured a top-two position on the Wimmera Cricket Association ladder following a six-wicket win against St Marys at Anzac Park on Saturday.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Tim Bell and Lachlan McGinniss were on fire making it hard for opening batsmen Colby Schmidt and Nicholas Germano to score.
Germano hit a solid boundary before he was bowled by Bell for six and Daniel Westerland fell for five, caught by Lache Hadley off the bowling of McGinniss which had the home team 2/23.
Paul Rowe came to the crease and with Schmidt was able to settle the innings with patient batting. Rowe fell for 19 and Toscano came in but could only manage four runs and when Schmidt was bowled by Isaac McPherson for 17 off 88 balls, the home side was in trouble at 5/57.
Nathan Priest, Bailey Watts and Matt Hartnett provided resistance, helping guide St Marys to a total of 77 after their 40 overs.
Jeremy Preston, Isaac McPherson and Tim Bell all led the way with two wickets a-piece.
In reply, St Marys bowled well but BrimKSH was just too good, chasing the total down in the 23rd over with four wickets down. Tim Bell was unbeaten on 46 in a man of the match performance.
Whilst St Marys batting continues to struggle, their bowling has been great and the positive they can take out of the match is the return of Brodie Dennes to form.
Before Christmas he was threatening to bounce back and he did in style with impressive figures of 3/9 (3.4). Also solid was Chad Hartnett with figures of 0/7 off six overs with three maidens continuing his fine form.
BrimKSH entered the round second on the ladder, one game behind Donald Jeffcott and four ahead of Marnoo. With the win and Marnoo's loss, they now have a five-game buffer with four rounds to play.
The ladder leaders easily accounted for Marnoo, winning by 136 runs. An unbeaten century to Lachlan Jones guided Donald Jeffcott to a total of 275. Daniel Atkins chipped in with 62 whilst Marnoo's best bowler was Benjamin Newton with figures of 3/55.
In reply, they bowled them out in the 40th over for 139. Jimmy Duxson led the way for Marnoo with 58 runs whilst Daniel Atkins was great with the ball for Donald Jeffcott with figures of 3/28.
At Wycheproof Recreation Reserve, Birchip had a comprehensive 10 wicket win over Wycheproof Narraport. They restricted the home side to 85 off their 40 overs with Bridie Casey the pick of the bowlers with 2/12 (3).
In reply, unbeaten knocks to Lachy Randall, 52 and William Marks, 31, guided them home in the 13th over.
In the B-Grade, BrimKSH secured an eight wicket win over St Marys at Brim Recreation Reserve.
After winning the toss and batting, 38 to Aiden Keys and 21 to Jake Hinton helped them to a total of 108 after their 40 overs. Sandon Schultz was great with the ball finishing with figures of 3/17.
BrimKSH chased the total down in the 29th over with eight wickets to spare. Barry Schilling, 38 and Mark McPherson with an unbeaten 28 were the standouts with the bat whilst Riley Adams took 2/26 for St Marys.
Charlton upset ladder leaders Donald Jeffcott at Charlton Park thanks largely to a brilliant match by Dan Whykes. They scored 174 thanks to an unbeaten 72 by Whykes. Andrew Donnellon took 3/29 for Donald Jeffcott.
In reply, Ethan Soulsby 3/22, Dan Whykes 2/24 and Elliott FItzpatrick 2/14 led the bowling restricting the ladder leaders to 139. Kalon Green was the top scorer with 24.
At Birchip Recreation Reserve, Birchip defeated the Southern Mallee Giants by 36 runs thanks to a wonderful display from Hudson McCredden.
The home side made 127 with Hudson McCredden unbeaten on 66. Adrian Love took 4/32 for the Giants.
In reply, the Giants were bowled out for 91 in the 37th over with Jack Flavel top scoring with 39 with Parker Hallam unbeaten on 13. McCredden was clear man of the match finishing with figures of 4/6.
