Brim Kellalac Sheep Hills Cricket Club have started their title defence with a comprehensive 136 run win over the Birchip Swans on Saturday at the Brim Recreation Reserve.
They were in trouble early at 2/6 with Jonty Randall taking two wickets in his first 7 balls. He bowled Matthew Crisp on the 4th ball for 2 runs and then trapped Connor McGinniss in front for an LBW for a duck with the 1st ball of the third over.
Isaac McPherson and Chris McPherson did a mini rebuild of the innings until Isaac fell on 16 in the 14th over caught off the bowling of William Marks.
An unbeaten 74 from Jeremy Pretson and 16 by Tim Bell alongside Chris McPherson's top score of 83, propelled the home side to 4/203 after their 40 overs.
Jonty Randall was the pick of the Swans bowlers taking 2/20 off his 8 overs.
Brim KSH then dominated with the ball bowling the Swans out for 67.
Lachlan McGinniss led the way with 3/26 off his 8 overs with Jeremy Preston taking 2/5 (3) and Chris McPherson 2/11 (4)
Opening batsman and club President Matthew Crisp said it was great to get off to a winning start.
"We got ourselves in early trouble, but with the help of Chris, Jeremy, Isaac and Tim at the end, we got a very good total and then bowled well, so to start off the season with a win like that is massive," he said.
"It was Tim Bell's first game for the club and he did really well with bat and ball so he looks a promising prospect moving forward.
"When I was standing next to Isaac when he was keeping he said to me that he thinks he has 8 bowlers, so with all contributing, we were very spoilt and if we can continue to use these bowlers consistently, it will be great."
It wasn't good news for the B Grade losing by 10 wickets. They were bowled out for 37 with both Graeme Holland and Royce Bennett top scoring with 10 runs. Swans best bowler was James Paley taking 3/10 off his 8 overs.
The Swans chased the total down in 10 overs with Hudson McCredden and Mameron Bennett not out on 23 and 12 respectively.
