Shaving three seconds off a record that had stood since 2017, Ryder N set a cracking pace in the 800 metre event for nine-year-old boys at Thursday's Warracknabeal Primary School athletic sports day.
It was the only new record of the carnival as Ryder finished the race in 3.32.12 minutes, eclipsing Cooper Preston's best time of six years earlier.
The three school teams, Borung, Henty and Wimmera, competed for the school athletic shield.
The weather was perfect for the competition, with students excited to be vying with each other for honours.
Year 3 to 6 students started the day by contesting field events.
Prep to Year 2 students completed several fun team activities, including an obstacle course and a tunnel ball relay, before joining the older students on the track.
All participated keenly and barracked in a positive way for their teams.
At the end of the day Borung finished on top with 568 points, Wimmera second with 533 points and Henty third with 516 points.
The Borung team cheered as they received the athletics shield, presented to house captains Piper K and Tobias A by school council president Tracy Dart.Piper and Tobias thanked their teammates for a fantastic effort and the other teams for participating, before leading their side in the Borung chant.
