A Norse god banished to Earth to live as an 11-year-old boy has won this year's national Children's Book Award.
Louie Stowell's book Loki, A Bad God's Guide to Being Good has won the award for 2023 after a nationwide vote by children's book groups.
Saturday is the start of Book Week with "Read, Grow, Inspire" the theme this year.
Book Week ends next Friday August 25.
Louie Stowell is a British writer who started her career writing carefully researched books about space, ancient Egypt, politics and science but eventually changed to writing about "made-up stuff".
The author of the Kit the Wizard series, she was inspired by her research into Norse myths to write Loki: A Bad God's Guide to Being Good, her first project as both author and illustrator.
It was soon a UK bestseller.
Many schools are planning book dress-up days with students asked to appear in the guise of one of their heroes or a character they like or in the theme of a popular book.
Dress-up costume ideas include animals, Bob the Builder, Fantastic Mr Fox, Annie, The Cheshire Cat, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Gangsta Granny and the Very Hungry Caterpillar.
