Bombers seek redemption
Having suffered their first defeat of the 2026 season, Noradjuha Quantong’s senior football side will aim to bounce right back as they travel to take on Kalkee this Saturday, May 16.
While disappointed in their round five loss to Laharum, Bombers assistant coach Wade Francis admits it’s an opportunity for the team to learn, eyeing an immediate improvement against the Kees.
“We knew playing against Laharum was going to be tough.
“That second quarter, they piled on the goals, and we couldn’t stop it, so credit to them.
“They were good defensively and on the outside, and a lot of their good young players really stepped up.”
“The message to the group afterwards was, ‘We can learn a lot from a loss like that, not everything is always going to go our way,” he said.
“We can take a lot out of it, hopefully try and fix a lot of things with how we’re playing.
“We really want to come back against Kalkee this week and have a good showing because I think we need to redeem ourselves and get some confidence back into the group after a disappointing result.”
The Bombers still remain on top of the ladder but are unlikely to have it easy against a 3-1 Kalkee side.
The Kees also suffered their first defeat in round five, pushing Kaniva Leeor all game before going down 85-67.
Kalkee will be hopeful playing on their home turf; however, the team has been hit by injuries in recent weeks, including that of key forward Tanner Smith.
But the Bombers' assistant coach expects a good game regardless of who plays.
“We’ve seen their top five or six players have started the season really well, and their forward line has done a lot of damage,” Francis said.
“I'm not sure who they're gonna have on the park, but we can only play what's in front of us, so we'll take it as it comes.”
