Noradjuha Quantong and Natimuk played out a seven-point thriller at Quantong Recreation Reserve in round 14 of the Horsham and District Football Netball League.
Natimuk kicked three goals to two in the opening quarter to take a five point lead into quarter time. The Bombers responded in the second quarter with three goals of their own to lead by two at the main break. It was a topsy-turvy match in the second half with both teams having their chances, but it was the Bombers capitlising on them better running out 13.7.85 to 12.6.78 winners.
Bombers coach Damian Cameron spoke about the win.
"We sort of half expected it to be close if I am honest. They normal challenge us so it's no surprise. I had my heart rate going in the last. It was a tight game, especially when they got within a couple of points in the last," Cameron said.
Brayden Culhane is getting into form at the right time of the year kicking four goals.
"When we needed a goal it was Brayden that would provide it," Cameron added.
"James Hallett and Jayden Besford were our standouts. Brock Orval continues to be consistent for us week in week out."
"It was a great battle in the middle. Jack Vague battled away pretty well in the ruck against Jordy Smith whom is a more athletic ruckman," Cameron concluded.
At Pimpinio Sporting Complex the Tigers put up a brave effort against the Jeparit Rainbow Storm losing by 34 points - 15.13.103 to 10.9.69.
Despite the loss, Tigers coach Clint Burdett was pleased with the performance.
"It was a good result for us with them being second on the ladder and a potential Grand Final team. I thought we did pretty well against them to be honest," Burdett said.
"We moved the footy fast again which has been our game plan throughout the year. Sides really struggle to match us when we move it fast but again, like all year, it came down to skill errors. Ours were not uo to scratch and good sides capitlise on that and that's where they won the game," Burdett explained.
Dylan Thomas was again outstanding in the midfield. He and rucmkman Reece McNally worked well together. Liam Jakobi again was brilliant leading up all day and Jack Baird provided a lot of dash again on the wing and also hit the scoreboard.
With Darcy Conlan out due to concussion, Matthew Jorgensen-Price played at Full Back and Burdett thought he did a great job.
"Matthew was thrown down there and he was up against their big ruckman and he battled well all day. He is a backup ruckman but he was needed down back and he held his own and played well," Burdett concluded.
Edenhope Apsley took it up to Harrow Balmoral at home losing a tight match by 16 points. The Saints trailed by 18 points at quarter time. In the second quarter, they kicked five goals to two to trail by one point at half time and the upset was a real possibility. They kept it tight in the third but ultimately the Southern Roo were just too strong winning 10.13.73 to 9.3.57.
Corey Williams was brilliant for the Saints with Josh La Rocca whilst for the Southern Roo it was Josh Dawson whom was best on ground with Simon Close and Greory Hamilton kicking three goals a-piece.
At Cameron Oval, eight goals to Jacob Christie helped Rupanyup to a massive 136 point win over Laharum - 22.32.164 to 4.4.28.
Lachlan Weidemann was also best on ground. For Laharum, Brett Ervin, Sean Wouters and Ben Puecker all played well.
The Swifts had a comprehensive 125 point win over Taylors Lake at North Park. The Lakers were never in the game with Matthew Healy kicking 6 goals for the home team in the 20.19.139 to 2.2.14 win. For Taylors Lake, Matthew White and Trae Martin were their best players.
Finally, at the Kalkee Recreation Reserve it was a great day for the home team with the Kees winning their fourth match of the year against Kaniva Leeor. The Kees were strong early and held it all game winning by 86 points - 22.17.149 to 9.9.63.
Jayden Kuhne and Simon Hobbs both kicked five and four goals respectively for the Kees with the latter adjourned best on ground. For Kaniva, Billy King and Hamish Bennett were amongst their better players.
