Bombers deliver comeback win over Natimuk
League leaders Noradjuha Quantong had to come from behind to defeat Natimuk United on Saturday in round 14 of the Horsham District Football Netball League.
The final score was Noradjuha Quantong 12.13 (85) to Natimuk 6.3 (39).
Natimuk surprised the Bombers early, kicking four first-term goals to go up 24-6 at the first break.
The Rams wearable to maintain their lead in an evenly-matched second quarter, entering half-time with a 38-20 lead.
But Noradjuha Quantong demonstrated why they are on top of the competition, coming out of half-time to kick four goals in the third quarter to take a 48-39 lead, before taking control of the contest and closing out the game with a 37-point final term while keeping Natimuk scoreless.
Ruckman Jack Vague and back Dyson Parish were impressive for the Bombers, while Oscar and Benson Miller were the best players for Natimuk.
Jye Walter had another fine performance up forward, booting five goals, while Archie Sudholz led Natimuk with two.
Damian Cameron, coach of Noradjuha Quantong, credited Natimuk for getting the better of his side in the first half.
“We were very second rate in the first half,” Cameron said.
“To Natimuk’s credit, they were very good with their contested play and were first to the ball.
“They were disciplined with there one-on-one play and pressured really well.
“Our work-rate in the front half was down and they took their opportunities with scoring.”
Despite the disappointing start, Cameron said he was pleased that the team’s second half was more representative of the quality the team aspired to.
“We really spoke about what we want to be as a team this season and how we need to perform week to week if we want to be a threat come finals time,” Cameron said.
“Our mindset and our intensity were what really got us back in the game and able to gain the lead.
“It took time to break it open, but once we did we controlled the game from then on.”
