Block out Black Friday texts and shop locally

Shopping locally builds up the whole community.

Winter isn't coming, but the festive season is here.

Black Friday has come and gone, but the endless texts, emails, app alerts, print advertising and commercials will continue for the next 25 days will continue.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I'm thankful I avoided pushing my credit cards and pay-later accounts to the limit.

Whether it was tiaras from Temu or a Ring video doorbell from Amazong (the top-selling item in 2024), the allure of grabbing a bargain was strong.

Instead, I bought local.

Pre-pandemic, I would have avoided in-person shopping for the convenience of a few clicks.

But now I'm looking for something more personal. Tangible.

A sea of black posters flowed through Horsham's central business district as dozens of shops encouraged the community to shop locally.

While they were jewellers, beauticians and retailers during business hours, outside of the bricks-and-mortar, they are parents, coaches and local shoppers.

Spending money on Temu or Amazon lines the pockets of Colin Huang and Jeff Bezos, and shopping locally builds up the whole community.

Have a great weekend.
