Jeparit's garage sale over the long weekend was a huge success, with around 90 people turning up from across the region.

Organiser Sharon Reilly said the response was overwhelming, with around 90 visitors coming from as far as Naracoorte, Stawell and Warracknabeal.

“It was actually pandemonium,” she said.

There were so many people and it was amazing.

“A lot of them said it was a cold, crappy day and they didn’t know what to do, so they thought they’d go for a drive and check it out.”

More than a dozen locals set up garage sales from 9am to 4pm, with all reporting strong sales and a buzzing atmosphere throughout the day.

“The highlight was the people,” she said.

“Everyone was up for a chat and it turned into a really social day.

“Some went to the cafe, grabbed a coffee or bacon sandwich, and it helped increase foot traffic through town, which was what I really hoped for.”

The event’s success has already sparked interest in running it again, with plans for a possible shire-wide garage sale weekend later in the year.

“I’ve already been contacted by someone from Dimboola asking if we can coordinate something between the towns,” She said.

“We’re looking at going bigger, getting the whole shire on board and creating a real weekend for the region.”

Ms Reily thanked all participants and visitors who made the day a success.

“Our community is very grateful,” she said.
