Bid to boost AEDs register
Yarriambiack Shire Council is campaigning to encourage the community to register their Automated External Defibrillators (AED) with Ambulance Victoria.
Ambulance Victoria attends thousands of cardiac arrests in the community each year, and warns that for every minute defibrillation is delayed, a person's chance of survival is diminished.
Ambulance community officer leader in Warracknabeal Sam Watts said anyone could use an AED because the device came with instructions which were easy to follow.
"It analyses if a pulse does start up and tells you to stop doing CPR, and if it doesn't feel you are compressing hard enough it will tell you to press harder," she said.
AED registration with Ambulance Victoria will allow critical lifesaving information to be
shared with Triple Zero Victoria call takers, who can inform callers during an emergency
of the AED availability and location details when it is required at the registered site.
Even if it's not accessible all the time, registration is still important.
If the registered AED is listed as being publicly accessible, the availability and
location details can be disclosed to those in an emergency.
This is important in alerting other emergency response agencies and trusted responders with the GoodSam program who can provide assistance.
Registration with Ambulance Victoria is processed online at registermyaed.ambulance.vic.gov.au
Community members with an AED will need to create an account and provide their name, address and contact details.
