CHLOE Bibby’s Perth Lynx National Women’s Basketball League team is set for a big play off series after qualifying for finals in the penultimate game of the season.
Finishing the regular season in fourth place, Perth is set for a semi-final showdown against ladder leader Townsville Fire which commenced last night (March 9).
The teams will play a three-game series to decide who enters the grand final with the other semi-final being contested between Southside Flyers and Melbourne Boomers.
Bibby said she was looking forward to the play offs in her first season with the Lynx.
“It should be a good series. We’ve played some pretty good basketball over the last couple of weeks and will take some good form into the Townsville game,” she said.
“All the girls are really excited and can’t wait for the series to start.”
After having a 7-0 winning run ended by Townsville in round 13, Perth produced a stunning performance, on the back of a Bibby three-point fest, when they defeated Adelaide Lightning in round 14 108-82 before suffering a loss to Southside Flyers 102-83 on February 19.
Townsville, who finished the regular season on top of the ladder, claimed successive wins over Perth before the Lynx hit back with a stunning win over Adelaide where Bibby shot a game-high 29 points which included shooting seven from nine three pointers included a run of five successive attempts from outside the arc in the second term.
The February 19 clash against Southside Flyers in Melbourne saw the Flyers dominate the clash with a big first half where they shot 59 points and led by 20 points at the half.
From that point, Perth has not missed a beat, winning their last three games and securing a play-off berth after their victory over Adelaide in the penultimate round.
A comfortable 107-94 point win over Canberra Capitals in the final round rubber-stamped their fourth placing with Bibby producing another strong game with 20 points, three assists and four rebounds.
Bibby finished the season shooting 16.2 points per game and will take her scoring ability into the finals series.
Her season also included the small forward being nominated for the Betty Watson Breakout Player of the Year at the end of season awards night held at Marvel Stadium on Sunday night which was awarded to Adelaide’s Isobel Borlase.
Melbourne Boomers shooter Cayla George claimed the Suzy Batkovic Medal as the league’s most valuable player.
