CHLOE Bibby’s Perth Lynx has closed the gap on the Womens National Basketball League premiership table after round 12 was completed on Sunday.
The Lynx claimed their seventh straight victory on Sunday which topped a three game winning run on the road over the last three rounds of the season.
After starting the season with a 2-5 record, Perth gave themselves a chance of climbing into the top four when they played the first of two home games against third-placed Townsville.
The double-header against Townsville didn’t start well for Perth in their round 13 clash who were defeated 91-81 on Wednesday night, breaking its run and leaving them in fifth position on the premiership table.
Townsville broke the game open in the second quarter when they outscored Perth 31-17 and opened up a 53-38 point margin at half time.
Perth hit back in the third term and closed the margin to four points at three quarter time with 22-11 term before hitting the front early in the final quarter.
Townsville was able to steady to the final whistle when they scored 27 to 21 in the final term and claim its win.
The second leg of the double will be played tomorrow night.
Prior to Wednesday night’s loss, Perth had played two less games than fourth-placed Bendigo Spirit and looked to build on its road trip success which saw them claim wins over Sydney Flames, Bendigo Spirit and Melbourne Boomers.
The first road trip match saw the Lynx defeat the Flames 87-68 before claiming a thriller over Bendigo 92-88 after leading by 20 points at three quarter time.
The match at Bendigo was well supported by a throng of Wimmera supporters with many in attendance competing in the junior state basketball championships over the Australia Day weekend.
Rounding out its trifecta of wins was a match-up with Melbourne Boomers at the State Netball Centre in Melbourne on Sunday.
Perth controlled the match from the opening whistle, leading by 10 points at half time before extending its lead to 11 at the last change and finishing with a 91-82 point victory, relegating the Boomers to second place on the ladder.
Bibby played a pivotal role in Sunday’s win with a huge defensive game and iced the contest late in the final term with two points under the basket to finish with nine points for the match.
