Man in the corner: between a hot rock and a bare place

A Horsham local found this out the hard way: the battle between a pair of thongs and a sun-soaked road will only go one way.
As the Wimmera endured its third consecutive day beyond 40°C, one good Samaritan decided to pick up a piece of rubbish off the road.
A quick barefoot trip was promptly abandoned, while attempt two was upgraded with the fan-favourite flip-flops.
One minute, they were progressing confidently; the next, they were effectively glued to the spot, betrayed by footwear that had turned into warm chewing gum.
They were faced with a dilemma that philosophers rarely prepare you for: do you walk barefoot on a road hot enough to fry an egg, or do you stand still in the sun and hope help arrives before you resemble a rotisserie chook?
