Being a mum never ends | A mum's world
I'm so lucky that my life is uber thrilling!
Last weekend I nearly burst with pride as my baby girl performed with Horsham School of Music for the last time when the incredibly talented Lisa Thomas wrapped up her 25-year teaching career.
Tiani and her fellow Year 12s performed a fabulous boot scooting number from the fourth movie in the Hunger Games series and they nearly brought the house down!
This week I needed a nice lay down after the wonderful occasion of organising our school's second ever Wellbeing Expo for RUOK? Day.
By the end of the day, after seven students in a row had asked me if I was okay, and I told them I was feeling great but just had very sore feet...I realised that they were reading aloud the question on my extremely bright yellow T-shirt - RUOK?
I love working with gorgeous teenagers who are slogging it out through a haze of constantly changing doses of hormones and trying to survive in this current culture.
Their parents have done an amazing job getting them up and out the door and they never stop surprising me with their unique way of seeing things. They are a joy.
My own teenager - yes, I only have one of my own left now, as the 'big' girls are 20 and 22 - is finding her way through her final year of secondary school and has been accepted to study for a double diploma in 2025.
I'm going to have a Beauty Therapist and Salon Manager in my family and I'm pretty darn excited about it!
With my eldest daughter supporting herself now, next year will be another year of providing for two tertiary students living out of home, and our very first year of being empty nesters.
I have to be honest, I am ready. I absolutely love having my darling 18-year-old around, but she is good to go and equipped to fly.
That's the job isn't it? Being a mum never ends, but the aim is to raise your children up so that they can head out into the world prepared to have a go at it themselves.
Believe me, I still get plenty of calls, and the opportunity to talk through tricky situations.
