Beaumaris Rotarians enjoy local race meet

A competitive eight-race program was conducted at the Warracknabeal Racecourse on Saturday.
Although, with the recent rain, the track was rated a Soft-6, it raced much better than that.
The winners, riding doubles, were Brad Rawiller and Tom Madden.
Brad rode the winners for prominent Flemington trainers Mark and Levi Kavanagh with Naval Chief in the 1600 metre maiden, and for Rob Griffiths and Mike de Kock from Cranbourne with Cuban Sunset in the Warrack Motel 58 Rating 1000 metre.
Tom Madden won his double for country trainers Symon Wilde and Daryl Dodson.
The club hosted 24 members from the Beaumaris Rotary Club, who said they enjoyed the hospitality. Well-known former resident of the district, Clem Quick, is now living in the Beaumaris area and is a Rotarian there.
A popular feature for bar patrons was the Palace Hotel Happy Hour - this time, drink prices were arrived at with a flipping of an original 1952 penny.
The next race meet is in less than a fortnight - the popular Sheep Hills Cup meeting on Saturday, September 2.
