Bankrupt: in 2024, even the bank of Mum and Dad feels the economic pinch
A Mum's World: Yolande fees like she's screaming into the wind.
Has anyone else taken to making silent screams of frustration via the reference section when banking electronically or is that just me?
I've been so busy bawling into the void that this week when I transferred another emergency $100 to an expensive daughter, I had no more words, that was it, I was bankrupt.
Usually when making payments and transfers through internet banking I am faced with a space to type in a reference and then another section to type a message, which I can never resist.
When paying bills, the reference is usually an invoice number, with a quick 'Thank you x' in the message section.
When transferring money to my daughters, obviously, I feel free to express myself, but I'm just not sure anyone is listening.
We all have strengths and weaknesses, and one of my daughters would be the first to admit that spending money is her strength, whilst saving money is, undoubtedly, a definite weakness at present.
I'm pretty sure she is impulsive and dopamine starved, so buying things gives her a lovely big dose of that feel good hormone.
Unfortunately, when the money is gone, the regret sets in, so it's a vicious cycle, steeped in disappointment.
She's tried a few tactics to make amends to her behaviour, but nothing seems to have worked so far.
Her part time jobs mean some money is coming in, but the bank of mum and dad are still her biggest supporters, so there's no chance of removing myself from the equation just yet.
Therefore, I've been venting and advising through the reference and message sections each time I make an injection of funds.
Gems like, "Love you x", "Remember, try to spend as little as possible : )" and "Remember not to spend it", "Aim is to save" plus the encouraging, "Drip feed", "Do not spend" and a softer, "Advance on Oct", "Enjoy the concert" then "Only 100 left after this", "Love you x".
I can tell I had a particularly difficult time a few weeks ago when the reference section said, "Do not spend this money" and the message section read, "Do not spend".
Obviously if I send her money, she is going to spend it, but I keep screaming into the wind.
Futile.
