Band concert displays local talent
A small but appreciative audience attended the Warracknabeal and District Band’s concert on Sunday, which was held in aid of the Community Garden.
The concert was held at the Town Hall and together with a raffle, raised almost $1000 for the Community Garden.
The Garden, with the support of WAG, is aiming to cover the cost of purchasing the block of land in Scott Street from its Melbourne-based owner.
This will ensure that it remains a valued community hub for the long term future, owned by the community.
Wendy Hewitt, on behalf of the Community Garden welcomed the audience and thanked the band, the Town Hall, and the audience for their support.
With these extra funds the Garden can now be purchased, which is tremendous news.
She also commented on the vibrancy of the Band and the youthful age of the band which was a very encouraging feature.
The band showed its versatility and competence with Bandmaster Jason Wright presenting four segments each designed to reflect a different genre.
He introduced some popular modern day tunes by Adele and Ed Sheeran to set the tone "while you work away in the garden."
The band then set out on an epic movie adventure with classic hits from "Indiana Jones", "Mission Impossible", "The Legend of Zorro", and "The Hunt for Red October".
This was a prelude to classical marvels ‘to help the garden grow’ with pieces like "Jupiter" from The Planets and "Three Ayres" from Gloucester.
Some classic rock numbers by Elton John, and golden hits with "Route 66" and "Life is a Highway", concluded the concert.
Jason cleverly interspersed the musical segments with several garden jokes.
He also pointed out that the median age of the band is 36.4.
Avril Hein, President of the Community Garden, thanked the Town hall and the band for presenting such a great concert on what was a cold winter day.
The raffle winners were Isobel Davidson and Cameron Drage.
The band will present another concert for the community in November (the day before Armistice Day), which will involve students from the Education Precinct in conjunction with the local RSL.
