Authorities declare Kadnook bushfire contained, property assessment continues
Bushfire destroys home, threatens more properties in Kadnook.
Update (11.55am): Authorities have listed the fire near Kadnook and Chetwynd is now contained.
However, it is not yet safe to return to fire affected properties as fire crews and heavy equipment continue to work on making the area safe.
Earlier (10am): At least one home has been lost in a blaze that continues to ravage bushland southeast of Edenhope; it is feared that another two properties could be destroyed.
The Country Fire Authority said the bushfire burning through a blue gum plantation at Casterton-Edenhope Road in Kadnook is not under control.
The fire continues to burn in a section south of the Glenelg River.
Hot and windy conditions on Saturday spread the bushfire in the Wimmera's south, forcing many residents of Chetwynd and Kadnook to evacuate.
An emergency relief centre is open in Edenhope at the community centre on Elizabeth Street.
Several roads remain closed to the public, including Casterton-Edenhope Road south of Kadnook, Casterton-Edenhope Road north of Chetwynd and Powers Creek-Bourkes Bridge Road from Powers Creek.
If you left Chetwynd or Kadnook, it is not safe to return.
