We’re not allowed to say who - but expect the warmest of welcomes when Horsham Rural City's Citizen of the Year is awarded the prestigious honour during the Australia Day ceremony at Sawyer Park on Thursday.

Recognisable to many - and to those they have helped and supported over the years - our top citizen ticks many of the boxes when it comes to giving back to the community, and is sure to
raise many a warm smile when their identity is revealed.

The Citizen of the Year award will be followed by the announcement of the Young Citizen of the Year and Community Event of the Year, after an Order of Australia Medal ceremony.

The day kicks off with a free barbecue breakfast from 7am, followed by a Welcome to Country by Auntie Anne Nicholson.

The city will then welcome its newest citizens, honour the raising of the flag, and be entertained by the Horsham City Pipe Band, Voices of the Wimmera, and the Horsham Rural City Band.

Australia Day Ambassador, retired Victoria Police Superintendent Paul Margetts, will help officiate.

Other Horsham Rural City Council Australia Day ceremonies will take place in Brimpaen, Dadswells Bridge and Natimuk.
All will be revealed in The Horsham Times next Friday.
