Ararat lock in win number three
Ararat banked their third win of the season with victory over Horsham on Saturday, with final the scores 8.18 (66) to 5.5 (35).
The Demons had the better start and were up by five points at the end of the quarter but then Ararat's competitiveness and poise kicked in and they were up by eight points at the big break, 5.5 (35) to 4.3 (27).
The Tom Williamson-led side extended that lead in the third, up by 20 points going into the final term, before the red-and-white held the opposition to just a point in the last quarter, winning by more than 30 points.
Ararat's director of football, Corey Taylor, said the contest was fought hard.
"The weather conditions made it a very scrappy game which didn't allow for much free-flowing footy," Taylor said.
"We adjusted to the conditions better in the second half, which gave us more looks at goal.
"I was impressed by the boys' ability to grind the game out to the final siren, given the conditions."
For Ararat, the likes of James Jennings, Jake Robinson and Ben Taylor led the way, while Reggie Jenkins was their only multiple goal scorer, with two.
Taylor said Jennings, Robinson and Taylor in particular handled the conditions on the day really well.
Likewise, Benjamin Janetzki booted a pair of majors for the Demons, with their better players including Jackson Hoffmann, Harvey Gunn and Jordy Schmidt.
