Ambos plea to community

Ambulance Victoria is asking people to treat their paramedics and call takers with respect when they are seen in the community or an emergency incident.

The plea comes as it has been revealed there have been 105 abuse and occupational violence reports resulting in injury from July 2023 to March 2024.

A media representative for Ambulance Victoria said while data isn’t broken down into specific regions, the issue is across the state and is relevant to the Wimmera.

Additionally, employees often report situations involving assault verbally and swearing. This behaviour can result in paramedics pausing treatment, leaving the scene or ending the call.

Injuring an emergency worker in Victoria is a Category One offence and carries a mandatory minimum six month jail sentence.
