Allambi auctions its surplus hostel items

The hostel was forced to close after new regulations requiring residential care homes to have a registered nurse on duty 24/7 were brought in following recommendations of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety.
The closure was completed May last year with residents being relocated to independent living or other residential care facilities.
Allambi committee of management vice-chair Ann Faulkingham said the closure was a "terrible blow" to the community.
"Especially to those who were involved and helped with fundraising," she said.
"Some people are still confused about the closure - it's just the hostel part that closed."
As it now comprises only the 12 independent living units, household items from the hostel are up for grabs for the general public.
Hospital grade electric beds, tables and chairs, bedside tables, crockery, cutlery and fridges and freezers will be up for auction.
"It will be happening inside the main communal areas," Ms Faulkingham said.
Registration and displays will open at 9am with the auction beginning at 10am. A barbecue lunch will also be available for purchase.
Selected bedrooms with restricted access will be open for people to look through.
"The money will go towards the renovations of our 12 independent living units," Ms Faulkingham said.
The auction is at 42-46 Anderson Street Dimboola.
From tomorrow, Allambi will be selling raffle tickets outside of IGA Dimboola Plus Liquor as another way to raise money for the unit renovations.
Artwork previously displayed in the hostel also will be sold.
Ms Faulkingham said there was at least one piece by Dr Alister Hinchley that would be among the raffle prizes.
