Meet one of Stawell's newest small business owners, Aiden Graveson.

A Stawell Warriors footballer, and new first-time father, Mr Graveson recently purchased the Jim's Mowing franchise that service Stawell, Ararat and Halls Gap.

The 22-year-old former disability support worker was on the lookout for a more favourable work-life balance and opted to step into business ownership, to become his own boss.

"[I did this to] provide for my family a bit more, it's a bit more income," he said.

"And more freedom, [My last job] was pretty good with that, but it's good that if I need a day off, it's my call, I'm my own boss."

While Mr Graveson said he enjoys gardening, mowing and being outdoors, he admits a Jim's Mowing franchise is a good fit for him because he gets to be a part of the larger company.

"Jim's Mowing is a reputable brand, big on customer service, and all those kinds of things that I believe in," he said.

"For someone who's never run a business, and at my age, they're pretty good with you.

"If I have any problems I can ring up my franchisor, and they just run me through whatever I need.

"Whereas I feel like if I started my own business and had questions, then I don't know who to ring.

"It's good to have mentors."

Mr Graveson, with Jim's Mowing is a one-man operation on the ground, currently offering mowing, gardening, gutter cleaning, landscaping, edging, pruning, rubbish removal, weed poisoning, lawn fertilizing, and tree removal, but he has the aim to see it grow.

"I bought it off someone who was running Horsham as well, he sold off Stawell, Ararat and Halls Gap becuase he was too busy up his way," he said.

"Now I'm hoping to grow it, hopefully I can hire a few people from around the town."
