Affordable housing given a boost with 25 new modular homes in Horsham
Twenty-five new homes in Horsham are ready for occupants
Community Housing Provider Haven Home Safe has almost completed twenty-five new modular homes in Horsham, and tenants' applications are being assessed.
With $7.3m funding from Homes Victoria as part of the Big Housing Build and a $2.8m contribution from CHPH, the project has delivered three one-bedroom and twenty-two two-bedroom homes.
The modular homes were built in Melbourne by the building group ARKit and transported to Horsham. Two trucks delivered each home to the site, where they were hoisted into positions by cranes to be bolted together.
While small and similar in size to Units, they have a 7-star NatHERS rating. They have individual rainwater tanks, all electric appliances, and heat pump hot water services.
The outside areas differ between homes, but most have a small backyard and deck, and some have a small shed and garden bed for planting. Front access is by a ramp, and some have carports as well.
An open day was held early in September for builders, HRCC, and media, who were given a guided tour of the site and several homes.
HRCC Mayor Robin Gulline said it was particularly satisfying to be at the opening as the project was one of the first the current council approved. Seeing the finished project and knowing that 25 people and /or families would now have a home was especially gratifying.

The occupants will be assessed on their connection to the community so they have local support and will contribute to community organisations.
The homes are built to accommodate a single person or a family. Inserts are available to fit the walk-in showers to bathe small children.
Several homes have raised ceilings fitted with glass to provide additional natural light.
The complex has no road-facing frontage, providing additional privacy. The two rows of homes face each other with a central roadway, small greenspace and lighting,
