Jeparit's Wimmera Mallee Pioneer Museum is ready to hold its Annual Vintage Rally this weekend, with all the firm favourites returning to delight patrons young and old.
The Wimmera Mallee Pioneer Museum spans almost three and a half hectares and features a large collection of items and displays from everyday working and home life from the 1800s to the mid-1900s.
The range of farm machinery – from horse-drawn and hand-worked to steam-powered and combustion engines – provides a glimpse into the past and demostrates how far technology has come in a short time.
Many of the items in the museum are still operational and will be up and running over the long weekend.
Visit the old chemist and gaze at the shelves of bottles and elixirs, or step into a barren, inescapable gaol cell and imagine being locked inside at the height of summer.
Take a tour of the schoolhouse, with its wooden benches and slates, and let your children appreciate how much nicer learning is these days.
Each building now features an information board explaining its origin and history – the first step in a series of long-term projects which will see the museum carried into the future.
Other exhibits and activities this weekend will include vintage engines and cars, horse carriage rides, working horses, market stalls, blacksmith demonstrations, and tractor and truck displays.
This year will also see the return of the popular heritage talks with presentations by Nhill Historical Society's Craige Proctor, and a presentation on Clydesdale working horses.
Adults pay $15 for entry, concession and student tickets are $10, and children under 12 can attend free of charge. Family passes are $30.
The gates will be open from 10am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday, and there will be a special ecumenical service on Sunday morning beginning at 10.30am.
