Under the auspices of WAG, a new, enthusiastic arts group has been formed and is inviting the community to come up with a new name which will capture the spirit of the group.
Under the leadership of co-chairs Kirsty Keys and Annie Nikkelson, the group aims to provide a local outlet for all ages and all aspects of the arts.
Visual arts and performing arts are welcome, and sub-interest groups will be encouraged.
Kirsty Keys and Jenny Taylor said, “we’re seeking to build an inclusive group of all facets of the arts in the community, and we need a name.”
“Our aim for the new group is to be attractive to all types of art and ‘the arts’, many of which may be outside of the typical perception.”
“It might be performing arts, such as at the Town Hall, an open mic night, talent quests, poetry or crafts, painting, even photography or digital art.
“The range is so diverse we really don’t want to exclude any possibility for inclusion,’ Mrs Keys said.
Until a permanent home is found the group will operate from the Court House art precinct when there are no artists in residence.
The plans for the group’s direction are still being established so they are meeting fortnightly, but plan to shift to monthly meetings in the future.
A committee of 15 attended the first two meetings of the new group and have embraced a new course, following the disbanding of the Warracknabeal Arts Council after 46 years of operation.
“We’re reaching out to the community to involve everyone keen to show their interest in the arts or share a talent in their chosen area,” Mrs Keys said.
“We’re looking for inclusivity and engagement in the community, but first and foremost we need a name that reflects this philosophy,” Mrs Keys said.
The next meeting on Wednesday July 12 at 6pm, will be held at the Shire Offices and is open to anyone who wishes to be involved in the development and naming of the new organisation.
