A look back at a wet start to 2011 as the region received record rainfall
More than 120mm fell in just over two days from January 12, 2011.
As the region goes through a warm and dry start to the new year, spare a thought for those in the area in late 2010 and early 2011 as as non-stop rain soaked parts of western Victoria.
The Wimmera was inundated with wet weather from Monday, January 10, 2011.
In the 56 hours following, the Bureau of Meteorology recorded that Horsham received 128.6 millimeters of rain, Hopetoun 100.8, Nhill 91.4, Stawell 99.6, Edenhope 75.4 and Mt William a whopping 207.2 millimetres.
Then long-term Longerenong weather-watcher Brett Allender said that the downpour was of record proportions.
"We'll smash just about every record in the book," he said to the Mail-Times at the time of the event.
"The 97mm in the 24 hours to 9am on Wednesday, January 12 is the highest daily total on record for January, easily passing the 62.2mm on January 14, 1974."
And the second-highest January total on record for any month behind 106.7mm on February 7, 1957.
The rain event also saw successive months that produced more than 100mm for the first time since 1889, as December of 2010 had 126mm of rainfall.
