WARRACK Eagles netballers broke through for their first win of the Wimmera netball season when they defeated Minyip-Murtoa at Murtoa on Saturday.
The final game of the home and away season saw no changes made to the top five teams as Horsham Saints completed its undefeated season to claim the minor premiership while Dimboola moved up a rung into fourth place after claiming a strong win over Ararat, relegating Nhill to fifth place.
Saturday’s final round of matches was highlighted by the Eagles A Grade claiming their first win of the season when they claimed a four-goal win over the Burras.
The Eagles won a thriller, 49-45, maintaining a one goal lead at three quarter time after the Burras led the match by five goals at each of the first two quarters.
But through some tight defence from Jess Kelly and Jordan Heller and accurate shooting from Amber O’Connor, the Eagles stormed home in the final term shooting 13 goals to 10 and extended its lead to four at the final whistle.
O’Connor finished with 35 goals, while Alex Hanson and Lucy Brand teamed well for the Burras.
B Grade was defeated 60-33 with Jonti McCoy and Tayla Leith finishing off strong seasons, while C Grade lost 39-25 as Jess Roberts and Steph Powell teamed well to set up scoring chances.
C Reserve finished their season on a winning note when they claimed a 32-24 goal victory over the fourth-placed Burras with Ciara Davis and Coco Malcolm performing at respective ends of the court.
Junior 15 and 17 & Under teams both finished in third place and a finals double chance when they both claimed strong wins to finish their seasons.
Ava Koschitzke and Isabella Orszulak were strong through the midcourt and under the ring with Orszulak topping her game with 34 goals, while in the 15 & Under game, the Eagles controlled the match to claim a 37-18 goal victory.
Lauren Clyne and Cienna Richards teamed well through the midcourt and in attack with Amalee Livingston and Clyne finishing with 20 and 17 goals respectively.
The 13 & Under girls also finished the season on a winning note when they claimed an 18-6 win with Georgia Evans and Mia Gardiner producing strong games.
Tomorrow’s first round of finals will see the Eagles 15 and 17 & Under teams contest qualifying finals
