A celebration of inclusion, a festival for people with a disabilties
Festival created a welcoming atmosphere for the community to engage
The International Day for Persons with Disabilities Festival was held in Horsham at Sawyer Park on Tuesday, December 3, under a warm night sky.
Great music created a festive atmosphere and there were numerous activities for children to enjoy.
Disability services were well represented, with stalls and information packs for people with disabilities or those involved with someone who may need the additional services offered in the region.
The chair of the Horsham Disability Advisory Committee, Matt De Gruchy, said it was the committee's first year holding the festival, and the members believed it would create something to build on in future years.
"This event is all about celebrating the outstanding contributions people with disabilities make to our community," he said.
"It's about creating a balance so that we recognise we all have differences, and we move towards removing the stigma of that second glance that people with disabilities often receive," he said.
The event focused on bringing the wider community together to promote open conversation, reduce barriers and create an inclusive society.
