Dimboola played host recently to an event that captured the attention of many as Lois McKenzie celebrated her 90th birthday in style.
The party took place at the bowling club and welcomed friends and relatives who made the journey from as far away as Melbourne to be part of the festivities.
Lois's daughter, Lynne McKenzie, a talented photographer, took on the role of host and also showcased her creative skills by designing a beautiful cake.
The turnout of 120 guests enjoyed a selection of appetising canapés.
Lynne said the response was amazing, given that some had been too ill to attend.
Among those present were several long-time Dimbooleans who had shared a significant portion of their lives with Lois.
Returning to their home town for the special occasion, they took pleasure in reconnecting with their roots and reminiscing.
Faye Sisley, Lois's god-daughter and a descendant of the well-known Sisley's Bros family who operated the butcher shop on Lloyd Street during the 1950s and early 1960s, said she was happy to be back in Dimboola.
She praised Lois, calling her "an incredible woman for 90".
"You wouldn't guess her age," Faye said.
Another guest, Margaret Hunter, shared a humorous incident involving the last-minute rush to complete Lois's birthday gift.
"We were scrambling because the bloody sewing machine broke down.
"We were lucky to make it," Margaret said, emphasising the dedication put into making the day extra special for Lois.
An interesting aspect of the celebration was the display of Lois's wedding dress, as well as the attire worn by her bridal party on her wedding day.
Additionally, an elegant ball gown from the early 1950s was exhibited, reminiscent of the moment when Lois McKenzie was crowned belle of the ball.
Lois's 90th birthday party will be remembered as a heartwarming gathering that celebrated her vibrant life.
As the event concluded, guests departed with a sense of nostalgia and a renewed appreciation for the enduring connections formed in Dimboola.
