5G for Hopetoun
Telstra is upgarding its mobile base station in Hopetoun to introduce 5G coverage, promising faster speeds, smoother streaming and improved 4G performance.
During the upgrade, Telstra mobile services will be temporarily unavailable.
The site will be offline from Friday, February 21 to Wednesday, February 26, with limited disruptions will continue on Thursday, February 27 as final tests take place.
Telstra regional general manager for Northern and Western Victoria Steve Tinker said the upgrade marks a prominent step for the region.
“Bringing 5G to the area is a major mobile milestone," he said.
"It will deliver higher speeds and capacity to the region, meaning faster downloads, smoother streaming and less congestion.
"Some disruption is required while the upgrade is underway, but we’ll only be switching off the site when we need to and will have it back online and working better than ever as quickly as possible."
Telstra customers can stay connected by enabling Wi-Fi calling on their phones.
Business owners are encouraged to connect EFTPOS terminals to Wi-Fi or NBN to avoid transaction delays.
Landline, NBN internet and other mobile provides will not be affected.
